Joyce Burkholder

For over forty years, Joyce has carved an artistic and creative life on the land.  She has developed her own personal style of painting using flat brushes, vigorous brush-work and pure paint on a dark ground.  For watercolour, she prefers a wet-on-wet background technique and for acrylics, she applies many layers of thing glazes to achieve the depth and mystery that her paintings are well known for.

A prolific and dynamic painter, Joyce has a passionate commitment to portray the beauty in which she lives so that others may experience and remember the wilderness in its infinite and changeable wisdom. Algonquin is an area to preserve and protect… we and our future generations depend on that primal connection with nature.

Visit Joyce’s studio/showroom Hillside Paintings and Pottery to see work in progress, current framed original paintings, reproductions, and cards. She is available for commissions and is a professional custom picture framer… her work can be framed to suit your home.

The art of Joyce Burkholder reflects a profound love and appreciation of the Canadian landscape and her unique way of seeing and painting what surrounds her.  Joyce prefers to paint primarily outdoors on location in all seasons, using oils, acrylics, and watercolour.

Joyce’s Adventure Painting Workshops take place in beautiful rural and wilderness settings near Wilno, Ontario. They are designed for all levels of experience. With lots of demonstrating and encouragement, she skillfully guides each student from the beginning to the end of the painting process with many examples to follow, or some choose to do their own compositions using the techniques she teaches. Joyce encourages painting outdoors in nature and as well there is a large comfortable studio space provided for painting indoors…either way, it is always fun, educational and an adventure!

Feel free to contact Joyce by phone or email regarding paintings, commissions, workshops or visiting her studio/showroom, Hillside Paintings and Pottery… located in Wilno, Ontario, Canada at 888 Wilno South Road.
